"Devil Showed Up" Devil showed up at my door Said he had a plan To find someone who loves the Lord I said I’m that man He just smiled and reached out And without a sound Burned everything I own Down to the ground But there’s nothing he can dish out that I can’t take There’s nothing in this world I need, long as I got my faith He claimed there was no God It’s scientific fact As he spun me around And stabbed me in the back He looked me all up and down And named all my sins Then he opened up a grave And pushed me in But there’s nothing he can dish out that I can’t take There’s nothing in this world I need, long as I got my faith Devil showed up at my grave Said he had a plan To find someone who loves the Lord I said I’m that man He thought he could take my soul I said can’t you tell That I’m bound for heaven And you go to hell ‘Cause there’s nothing he can dish out that I can’t take There’s nothing in this world I need, long as I got my faith

Got a Mind 03:48
"Got A Mind" One night when I was out a man came knocking He stole my daughter's innocence and kept right on walking Policemen caught up with him later that night They locked him up but that don't nearly make things right I got a mind to learn that man a lesson I got a mind to introduce him to Smith & Wesson I know it's a sin but I don't care I know it's a sin but I don't care I know it's a sin but I don't care I'll see him burn in hell His lawyer looked the jury square in the eyes And sold each one of them a pack of lies My child can't sleep at night but he don't care a lick What he'll do for money, man, it makes me sick I got a mind to take care of everything I got a mind to find a tree and make him swing I know it's a sin but I don't care I know it's a sin but I don't care I know it's a sin but I don't care I'll see him burn in hell The judge returned and we all stood He said that man had a rough childhood I couldn't believe my ears then my wife started crying I promised her I'd control myself and, Lord, I'm trying I got a mind to make them pay for what they done I got a mind to send them all to Kingdom Come I know it's a sin but I don't care I know it's a sin but I don't care I know it's a sin but I don't care I'll see them all burn in hell

The Lore Dogs are a new collaboration of American singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist D.B. Rielly (2019 Kerrville New Folk winner) and world percussionist Rohin Khemani (Red Baraat, Surface to Air Trio). Dark tales of love and perseverance are illuminated with everyman ease in songs that pair traditional American sounds with colors from afar. Indian, Latin American and African percussion partnered with guitars, banjo and accordion tell stories that resonate beyond our borders.

The Lore Dogs debut EP presents a melancholy new take on Hank Williams' Jambalaya (On the Bayou) alongside two original works. Devil Showed Up weaves a story of tenacity and perseverance in the face of obstacles. Got a Mind tells the story of a father's desire for vengeance.

"After many years touring the world in bands, we each wanted the simplicity of a duo. Being able to hit the road and take the show anywhere. The space, the freedom, to see where the music would take us and leaving room to have a friend or two join us once in a while."

Guests on the recording include Australian trumpet player, Nadje Noordhuis, who performs a haunting solo on Devil Showed Up, and North Carolina guitarist, Justin Poindexter, whose sensibility for roots music helps to plant these songs in both America and abroad.
